I have been working on transfering my wife’s first radio shows from tape to FLAC. In researching the project Audacity quickly rose to the top as a great solution for recording and editing. Audacity 1.32 which is still in beta adds a bunch of useful new features including FLAC encoding, project saving and recovery and a recording scheduler.
Audacity is a open source recording and editing application with support for Windows, Mac OS X and GNU\Linux. It is actively developed and there is a great community surrounding Audacity. Last but not least it is free!
