All In One Player For All OS’s

We like software that is free, open source and supports lossless audio formats and so when we came across MPlayer we knew it was worth a closer look. Started in 2000, the development for MPlayer began with small group of developers and has grown from there. The first thing that caught my eye was the dizzying array of audio and video formats that MPlayer supports and the fact that they are constantly adding new formats to the arsenal. Available for Windows, MAC OS X, Linux and Unix systems MPlayer was developed with the power user in mind and so it relies heavily on a command line interface. For those of you that prefer a simpler more colorful interface there are GUI’s available for each operating system supported. GMPlayer for GNU\Linux, MPlayer for Mac OS X and the two for Windows, WinMPLauncher and MPUI. MPUI provides access to a majority of the features found in MPlayer using a basic GUI that resembles the original Windows Media Player 6. We will continue to watch the development of this interesting media player and look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
