TrueHD, Dolby’s New Lossless Format for HD-DVD
At the recent CEDIA Expo Dolby announced a new lossless audio format to be used on the upcoming Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs. This new format called TrueHD is touted as a update for the MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) format that was developed by Meridian and currently used on DVD-Audio discs. Dolby TrueHD also supports the new speaker locations set by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and has been chosen as the mandatory format for all HD-DVD discs but an optional format for Blu-ray discs.
